Children’s Health Insurance Program

CHIP is a federal program to provide health insurance to eligible children and pregnant women in families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid (known as Medi-Cal in California).

CHIP benefits vary by state, but generally the coverage includes:

  • Routine check-ups
  • Immunizations
  • Doctor visits
  • Prescriptions
  • Dental and Vision care
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital care
  • Lab and X-ray services
  • Emergency services
  • Behavioral health services
