An Ambulatory Center is a free-standing entity that furnishes health care services. It is neither integrated with nor a department in a hospital. It provides medical center on an outpatient basis.
Physically separate facilities on the campus of a hospital are considered free-standing unless integrated with or operating as a hospital department.
Examples include, but are not limited to, free-standing Cardiac Care Facilities and free-standing Residential Treatment Centers.
An Ambulatory Center may also be referred to as an Ambulatory Care Center.
Ambulatory Surgery (or Surgical) Centers performing certain services are not considered free-standing facilities.
Laboratories are not considered free-standing facilities.
