Non-Preferred Provider

A provider who doesn’t have a contract with your health insurer to provide services to you. You will pay more to see a non-preferred provider. It’s recommended that you check your policy/contract/certificate to see if you can go only to providers who have contracted with your health insurance (those who are “in-network”), if your health insurance has a “tiered” network and you must pay extra to see some providers, or if you can go out of network and pay more for services.
