If you switch health plans during the current calendar year, some insurers will give you credit for any amounts paid toward your deductible under your prior group health insurance plan.
Also referred to Deductible Credit Transfer.
For example, you work for Company A, your employer-sponsored health plan is offered through ABC Insurance Company, and you have a $500 annual deductible. You have paid $350 toward that deductible. In June, your group has an Open Enrollment and you change your coverage to XYZ Insurance Company, with a $500 annual deductible. XYZ Insurance Company may apply a $350 credit to your new $500 deductible, so you will only pay $150 for your deductible in your new plan year.
