An Ultrasound is a medical diagnostic technique that uses sound waves to create pictures of organs, tissues, and other structure inside the body. It allows health care professionals to see inside the body without surgery. Ultrasound is also known as ultrasonography or sonography. Ultrasound images are sometimes referred to as sonograms.
One of the most common uses of ultrasound is during pregnancy to monitor the development and growth of the fetus. There are other uses, too, including imaging of the heart, blood vessels, abdominal and pelvic organs, muscles and tendons, eyes, thyroid, brain, breast, and skin as well as diagnosing gallbladder disease.
