A Waiting Period, which typically applies to employment-based health insurance, is the period of time that must pass before you can enroll in your employer’s health plan. Typically, it is often 30 days or the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), for employer-sponsored health plans, the waiting period cannot exceed 90 days. That means coverage must begin by the 91st days after you become benefits-eligible at your employer.
